Irresistible Natural Hair Benefits of a Hot Oil Treatment

A hot oil hair treatment is an application of hot oil (warm) to the hair and scalp to encourage moisture retention. They are used to nourish dry, brittle, or chemically damaged hair prone to more breakage and split ends.

The treatment is made from plant-base oils, such as olive oil, almond oil, and coconut oils that work together to seal the hair’s cuticle. This can help strengthen and protect the hair.

BENEFITS

Sealing the hair’s cuticle with the use of hot oil treatments can be especially beneficial to those with high porosity hair, chemically treated hair, or experience dryness frequently. The additional benefits include:

. increased hair strength

. fewer split ends

. increased blood flow to the scalp, which can promote healthier hair

. adds/restores shine

. shield hair from sun damage (depending on the oil type)

Performing a hot oil treatment on your natural hair is a great addition to any healthy hair routine and is recommended once a month. Before settling on an oil or the frequency of use it is best to test and keep track of how your hair and scalp responds.

Once you have chosen your favorite oil or a pre-made blend of oils follow the steps below or watch this Video Tutorial

Items needed:

. Oil or Oil Blend

. Applicator Bottle

.1 Cup of water

. Container

STEP 1: Start on washed hair. Starting on washed, product-free hair allows for the maximum

absorption of the oil because it has been cleansed from any product buildup.

STEP 2: Warm a cup of water in a container in a microwaveable container.

STEP 3: Remove the container carefully.

STEP 4: Take your oil and pour it into a plastic applicator bottle.

STEP 5: Place the applicator bottle into the container of water for 1 min to begin warming the oil.

STEP 6: IMPORTANT* Remove the bottle. When removing it, you want to test the oil to make sure it is NOT hot but warm. If it is too hot, leave the bottle out to cool to the desired temperature. NEVER apply oil that is too hot to the scalp or hair. Oils can hold high temperatures easily and could potentially cause burns and hair damage.

STEP 7: Section the hair into 4 sections, or smaller if desired.

STEP 8: Apply the oil to the ends of the hair and the scalp.

STEP 9: Cover with a plastic cap for 30 minutes.

STEP 10: Rinse and condition hair as usual.
