I. THOU SHALT DETANGLE WITH CARE


  • Detangle starting from ends towards the scalp.

  • Avoid detangling on dry hair.

  • Make sure the hair is dampened with water or a water-based product.

  • Use a wide toothed comb or your fingers to gently detangle while in small sections. This helps avoid knots and breakage.


II. THOU SHALT MAKE WATER YOUR HAIR'S BEST FRIEND


  • Water is your hair’s best friend. It plays a vital role in the structure and health of a single strand of hair.

  • Make sure water is the first ingredient in the products you use. It improves each strands’ elasticity, creates softness and improves overall manageability.

  • Moisturizing should be a part of your daily hair regimen.


III. THOU SHALT DEEP CONDITION REGULARY

  • Deep conditioning replenishes the moisture lost through daily styling handling

  • When done regularly it reduces frizz, create shine, and help the hair become more manageable.

  • Can help repair damage to the hair cuticle.

IV.THOU SHALT NOT COMPARE


  • Avoid comparing your own hair type to another person’s.

  • When trying new hairstyles, techniques or methods remember what may work well for one person may or may not work for you.

  • Solution: Try to find someone with your similar hair texture to gain understanding in what may work for you.


V. THOU SHALT LOCK IN MOISTURE


  • Applying the LOC or LCO Method helps with moisture retention.

  • The L stands for Liquid; water, leave-in or a water-based product.

  • The O stands for Oil that will seal in moisture.

  • The C stands for a cream product to help close the cuticle and seal in moisture.


VI. THOU SHALT KEEP YOUR SCALP HEALTHY


  • A healthy scalp results in healthy hair growth. You cannot have one without the other.

  • Address dryness, itchiness or irritation. It's vital to growing and maintaining healthy hair.

  • Be proactive in acknowledging and consulting a dermatologist if any symptoms cannot be remedied on your own.


VII. THOU SHALT CARE FOR YOUR ENDS


  • Caring for the ends of your hair is what helps retain length. Since it is the oldest part of your, extra attention is necessary.

  • Get regular trims to remove split ends.

  • Protect your ends: Deep condition, moisture locking (LOC or LCO method and tucking your ends away with protective styles.

  • Wearing a satin or silk bonnet/scarf does two things:

1.Protect your hair from friction that can cause dryness.

2.Prevents breakage.

  • Pillowcases with the same material are a great option as well.


IX. THOU SHALT WEAR PROTECTIVE STYLES


  • Protective styling should always be a part of your hair regimen.

  • Low to no manipulation styles allow your hair to thrive without much handling.

  • Less handling means less opportunity for breakage.

  • Your hairstyles should never cause unnecessary tension or be kept in without moisturizing your hair.

  • Protective styling does not mean neglecting or forgetting your curls needs.


X. THOU SHALT USE A HEAT PROTECTANT


  • Direct heat should be avoided.

  • If you still prefer to use heat, invest in a good heat protectant.

  • Always use your heat protectant when blow drying, and using heat styling tools.

  • Meeting with a professional stylist to ask how they prevent heat damage for their clients and if they use a heat protectant is recommended.
